Nowadays, agriculture and fishing are bounded

  • Given that 28% of the island is covered with olive fields, the main agriculture production are olives and olive oil.
  • Due to its rich vegetation in coniferous and flowers, Skiatho’s honey is characterized as mixed.
  • In ancient times there were vineyards which unfortunately where abandoned, yet little production subsisted just for private consumption.
  • Livestock farming, mainly goats and sheep, is not very developed and is more of domestic character.
  • Fishing has also considerably reduced because the boats are now mainly used for tourism.

It is worth mentioning that there is great variety of wild herbs such as oregano, wild mint, thyme, laurel, savory, sage etc. which are not commercialized.
