Mrs Arg. Doulgeri - Itzesiloglou, Archaeologist of the IC Supervision Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities, in the introduction of the presentation of archaeological research "Ancient Skiathos through the texts and the monuments" mention the researchers who recorded the history of the island:
"The old European travelers, geographers and archaeologists who visited the island of Skiathos in the last century and at the beginning of our century, such as K. G. Fiedler (1841), L. Ross (1851), H. N. Ulrichs (1863), C. Bursian (1879), A. Philippson (1901, 1959) and finally C. Fredrich (1906, 1915) and A. J. B. Wace, which were the most specific in the study of antiquity, attempted to identify and describe in their writings the remains of the ancient civilization of the island, following the information from ancient writers and modern people of Skiathios. As a result to left us valuable evidence for the existence of several monuments, some of them are still exist, while others have been permanently lost or damaged irreparably.
In the middle of 20th century Greeks took the relay of study of Skiathos past. The Tr. Evangelidis (1913), the Assistant Dimitriadis (1916), the Joh.. Frangoulas (1978), the P. Lazaridis, (1965), the Ad. Sampson (1977), to mention the most well known, covered a wide range of history of the island, such in antiquity as in the Byzantine period and later seasons, publishing temporal, treatises and self-contained Books ."
